![]() I don't even have to call anyone to get a quote. It's not even on my email confirmation or invoice. When I clicked through, I found that I had placed my order, and never got a shipping charge notice. ![]() I kept looking for a listing of shipping charges, but didn't find it. At least Grizzly makes it is easy to determine that number. I just ordered a launch rail from McMaster-Carr, having heard of them here on TRF. The only cost I care about is how much am I going to have to pay to get a particular machine set up and working in my shop. My comment was meant to illustrate the inconsistency in Grizzly's shipping pricing.Ĭompanies similar to yours generally advertise their equipment prices without including shipping, handling and any applicable sales tax. The original conversation was about sharpening stones and that is the sort of product to which I was referring. MinimaxI agree with you on Grizzly heavy equipment shipping costs. The customer is paying for it one way or the other and if a seller can ship, say, a large bandsaw across the US for some low, fixed number, you can pretty much be guaranteed that there is already several hundred dollars built into the price you are paying in order to cover that. The company was founded in 1901 and is based in Elmhurst, Illinois, with distribution centers in Robbinsville, New Jersey Santa Fe Springs, California Douglasville, Georgia and Aurora, Ohio. With a huge operation, I don't know how else to pull it off other than charge a flat rate based on weight or price, and then if something slips through the cracks as ridiculously outrageous, take that on a case by case basis and fix it by hand. McMaster-Carr Supply Company is a private American supplier of hardware, tools, raw materials, industrial materials, and maintenance equipment. Really, everyone pays a bit less in the end because if I have to implement some complex solution, guess who ultimately has to pay for it? For outside the US, the customer must contact me and get actual shipping costs before ordering, and I charge my actual costs minus the shipping allowance built into the product.īut I'm a small operation and I can do this sort of thing. Some customers pay more than strictly necessary, and others pay a little less. The McMaster-Carr expansion would create 250 jobs with an average annual salary of 85,000, Fort Worth government officials say. On some sales, I make a few extra bucks, and some sales I loose a few extra bucks. But last night, the Fort Worth city council approved a public works incentive package that details that McMaster-Carr plans to invest about 360 million in the new facility. What I end up doing is shipping most items for free in the US, because I have a very good idea of what it costs to ship and it's just built into the price. Also, a lot of people are turned off by these additional charges being tacked on AFTER the order, and without a chance to review them. What I'd LIKE to be able to do is charge my price, and then charge actual shipping costs, including materials, but that's just so complicated that it's impractical. Good luck with all your future purchases. As someone who's business is mostly from online sales, I can sympathize with the problems of calculating shipping costs for small items. You are looking at it as a 50% increase, look at it as a $3 increase and move on. Would you really want a set cost and have the company constantly be making profits on the shipping charges? Would you be upset if they had quoted you $50 and then charged $53. I'm sure that UPS has their ways of figuring things based on the volume that is going to a certain area.Īnyway, what I'm getting at is that it is impossible to know to the last cent what the costs are going to be until the time that shipping tag is printed out. Change days and some times the costs change also. I have had the quotes come back differently for the same exact items going to the same address on the same day. Choose from our selection of standard cardboard boxes, heavy duty cardboard boxes, wood shipping crates, and more. The jug inside these cardboard containers collapses as it dispenses for uninterrupted flow. I quote every order that has to go out and that is what I charge. UN-Compliant Collapsible PlasticShipping Jugs with Packing Kit. I have no idea how much stuff any of you actually ship, but I UPS stuff out almost everyday. McMaster Carr has a great variety of fasteners and their shipping is FAST which is super great for prototyping, but when it comes to production, their price is not really realistic. I'm pretty sure that they charge cost on shipping, so that box that your stuff comes in is not in those shipping charges either.
